I also thought Mal was great, in particular in that basement scene where she approaches Ariadne and she is like two feet taller than her. She’s totally a creepy character and she makes Cobb a creepy character, I think, because it’s his mind you can’t trust.
I wonder why JGL is so much more “authentic” than other actors. Like, obviously James Franco is making his art and writing his awful stories and everything for attention, but I also get the impression he’s having a lot of fun at our expense. So why does the fact that JGL rejects celebrity and James takes it for what it’s worth make the former authentic and the latter a phony? I am totally going to write my thesis on James Franco.

I’m on board with that interpretation. It also makes me sad that we never got to see the “real” Mal.
But hey, when did I say JGL was the only authentic star or more authentic than The Franco?
Though I do think that JGL is a different animal than Franco because he’s not at all enigmatic. Franco is just messing with us. And believe me, I respect that. Franco also is interested in manipulating his celebrity, while JGL seems to want to eschew it entirely.
